Any quick ways to "roast" garlic, please?

Hi there  I'm making Nigella's hearthbreads for lunch. To make the garlic paste she advises roasting the head of garlic at gas 5 for 45 mins. As I'll be baking the bread later, this seems a waste of gas for one garlic head ;)

Does anyone have any ideas for how I can do this more economically, please; using a microwave, perhaps

TIA, Penny. x

  • Put it in a microwave with a little oil, and chicken or other stock to go about halfway up, cover the container. Sorry I can't remember how long for, someone else may know. maybe 5 mins?

5mins may be a bit much, burnt garlic is not nice. I would start with 2mins and then increase in 20 second increments, watching carefully.

The risk with the microwave method is that your home will honk to heaven!

    Hiya

    Found this

another suggestion I saw was to do it on the stove top in oil, sounded a bit like frying it.
