OS Daily Thread - Sunday 7th September

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for today. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Hi all!
Yes, you guessed it, the OH woke me and is now sleeping like a baby, so I am here hugging my tea mug and planning next weeks meals around the store cupboard and freezer..
Squiggly.. 'I could have danced all night, I could have danced all night and still have begged for more...' There you go, it's back in your head again and you can hate me all day *giggles*
pigpen... lol!!
Sammy, so sorry to hear about your hubbys treatment at hospital, it's shocking isn't it?
Have to say the great thing about being up this early is the total peace. The fat cat hasn't realised I am up yet so isn't hassling for food and the house is totally silent. Plus I get to watch the sunrise as it isn't raining at the moment. Sleep would be wonderful, but being up has its compensations.
I hope you all have a great Sunday and I will call back later if I can prize my OH off here tomorrow evening!
*Hugs* to everyone who needs one and congrats to anyone who is celebrating today!

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

Morning.
It is certainly much cooler this morning. I actually felt cold getting out of bed. There is no way the heating is going on though.
I did burn a few logs last night while watching a chick flick with the missus.
Work soon and I am quite looking forward to catching up of stuff. Someone does a cooked breakfast on Sundays, so bacon and eggs here we come.
I see England managed a whole 2 goals against a team of part timers. Pity that there is no TV viewing anymore for national team matches. It's not right that we should pay to see the national team!
Well, best get a shower and feed the animals.
CheersNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning MSDiva, N9eav & all to follow. More rain outside. Had enough now, could someone put an order in for it to be stopped please.
Thanks for that Diva....lol!!!! I too am awake early again, just got my cuppa too but sitting back in bed with it. Lovely & quiet here as well (for now). One of my cats looked at me as if to say "why are you up?" (she should be used to it by now) but she's curled back up now too.
N9eav, a cooked brekkie at work - sounds like a treat?! We'll all be there soon... hope they've got plenty!
EDIT: Sammyjig, just caught up on the last of yesterday's thread. So, what exactly is the point of your OH being in hospital if he is not being seen by a doctor or treated properly..?!? I'm not surprised you were cross. Don't know if you are going in today, but I would ask to speak to the senior nurse on the ward, tell him/her you want the contact details of the PALS office (patient liaison) - it's sort of like the first step in indicating you are on the verge of making a complaint (and if you ask the nurses for it, they will know you are considering taking things further). When my nan was very ill in hospital in Croydon a few years ago & "fell" out of her bed (with the sides up & she was immobile from cancer in her spine) I emailed the PALS office & also copied in the Chief Exec,(I find if you can email someone fairly high up, then it adds a little pressure to get things done) with a scathing email & informed them that I was on my way, would be there in 2 hours & would be on the ward asking questions as I was deeply concerned at what was going on - or not going on. Amazing how quickly they got their act together. I was very polite to the ward staff, but at the same time said that the situation was completely unacceptable and I would be considering a formal complaint if things did not improve & fast. I also asked the senior nurse on the ward if she would have been happy with being treated the way my nan was & I was sure she could understand that all I was trying to do was ensure she was treated properly.
(None of this was specifically getting at the nursing staff, but more about getting the situation sorted).
Mate coming round with jigsaw today, but have ordered the shelf brackets I want online as they were a third of the price of B&Q, plus free delivery by Tuesday, so keen as I am to have a go at putting them up, I'm also not paying a fortune for the privilege
Think I will do some meal planning & see if I can organise myself enough to do a month's shop online (not today, but imminently) to stock up on dried/tinned stuff & household stuff, etc so I can just buy the basic meat, fruit/veg, milk, bread weekly. Maybe I'll spend less that way & it's a good compromise until I have the freezer space to be able to do the whole month online. Checked out the grocery challenge thread yesterday (to get the cookie recipe), I didn't realise there were links to so many other recipes there!!!! I really should explore some of the threads a bit more....
7 years today since I lost my dad, it's not a day we make a big thing of as such, but I shall be quietly remembering & missing him. And being cross at him for not giving up smoking & saying "I told you so". I'm sure whereever he is, he is saying that to himself too.

Morning all. Didn't sleep too well. DH rang at 11.30pm to say a doctor had popped to see him (finally!). He asked if the pain he was getting was normal and she said no it wasn't good but not life threatening either so she would have to go and see more urgent patients and would come back to him!!! I have texted him this morning but no reply so I am just hoping he is sleeping.
Really must get something done this morning. Made a bg batch of bolognese yesterday but it's still sitting in the slow cooker waiting to be portioned up and frozen.
Very dull, dismal and wet here.
Have a good day everyone.:)Do more of what makes you happy:)0 -
just a quickie before I head to Asda to stock fridge up for the week. will pop a few extras in basket for DS as he leaves next weekend for uni
must get some washing done, had such a lazy day yesterday. weather looks pretty bad so will only do things which will dry quickly or go in TD.
going to check out some veggie recipes in the recipe section, DD has decided she'd like to be a veggie....but she doesn't like veg so could be a short lived phase
sorry to hear sammyjig about OH..hope its sorted now and he feels better soon.
hugs to everyone else who is poorly, worried or remembering loved ones.x x x0 -
Morning all!
Sorry you're awake so early Diva! I'm less than thrilled about being awake now on a Sunday!
Enjoy brekkie N9eav!
Squiggly - kind thoughts to you about your dad. The GC thread recipes are fab, try Mrs M's wraps if you have time cos they are delicious! And according to my kids they're better than shop ones!
Woken up early by dd3 cos Maisie cat had gone and sat on her head! She's back to sleep now! oh is taking dd3 swimming, dd2 is at a sleepover in the village for her mate's birthday, ds went to one of the Harvest Home's last night and has rugby training this morn, so it'll just be me and dd1 later lovely!
Cooking roast lamb for dinner and might experiment with some more loaves - copied the Hairy Baker's loaf yesterday after watching them, put and egg wash and sprinkled salt and oats on the top, looks really impressive! Tried out their naans, but I either need to make them a whole lot bigger or divide the mix into a lot more naans, they were a meal in themselves!
Will be doing some ironing and think that's prob all the os stuff for today, other than some baking for packed lunches, going to try some breakfast bars that I copied a recipe off here somewhere for!
Have a good day, gonna have a nice peaceful browse now! xxGC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Morning all
Sammy - sorry to hear about how badly your hubby is being treated in hospital. I definitely would put a complaint in, especially the fact that the his notes were falsified too. Hope they sort him out very soon.
N93av - I thought it was agreed that all England games were going to be on BBC or ITV to allow everyone to be able to watch it without having to pay any extra. It may be just the home games that are covered by that though. They are playing awfully bad at the moment, but we should still have the choice as to whether we want to sit through watching them or not
Made an apple cake from a recipe that someone kindly put on here (I'm very sorry but I have an awful memory and can't remember who it was, but thanks!!) Was lovely.
Changed the beds yesterday so thats one thing I haven't got to do today. Plenty of ironing to do, as always. Have got chicken casserole for dinner, weather just right for a winter warmer methinks!!
Hugs to all the people who are suffering from flooding. Breaks your heart to watch the news to see how people are suffering, after just getting straight from last year's problems.
Have a good day all, avoiding the raindrops xxx0 -
Good Morning All
(((Squiggly)))
N9eav - I was moaning about the England game yesterday, OH & DS went down our local to watch it, OH hardly drinks so think it is cheaper overall than Sentanta - very annoying though.
Feeling a bit uurrgh this morning, think it is the weather, it isnt actually raining at the moment but everywhere is soaking. Waiting to hear if DS's footie match is on or not.
Other than possible football will be a quiet day. Need to wash and dry some more washing and do all the ironing so the uniforms are ready for the week. Dont want to put the heating on and its not cold anyway so will have to use the TD a bit.
Roast pork today with home grown marrow and runners.
Have a lovely Sunday.

Morning all.
Well I joined this thread a couple of weeks back but so far only maing it every 3rd day or so!
Sammy, I don't know you very well, but just to say I hope that things get better for you and OH.
Diva, you were up at 04.35 am - wow, my DH moaning when I stirred at 07.50!!!! (In saying that he starts work at 0745 during the week and likes to lie a bit longer in the morning at the weekend, DS also up this morning though playing happily with his bus in his cot now!).
Well its Church for us, then home for lunch and I will x stitch while DS has his nap (and DH will be in the garden although I might 'let' him go fishing again if he wants to!).
Pasta and sauce with HM garlic bread (better make some bread dough then too lol).
Take care and huggies to all who need them.

Good morning all. It's my birthday today and you'd think the sun would be out, wouldn't you? Still, I started it in time-honoured fashion, the way Whatatwit and Mr Hester started theirs!
DH has had to go to work today because the job he is on must be finished ready for tomorrow. He'll come back mid-afternoon when the rest of the family will be here for our triple celebrations. My birthday, DS1's 37th ( ) and the anniversary of the day DH and I met!
I'm not intending to do too much today apart from prepping the veggies for tonight's roast dinner. I've got a load in the WM but that will have to hung on my under-cover washing line.
(((Hugs))) to Smoky, PenPin, Jayward, Sammyjig's OH, Candygirl's Dad, Essex-girl's Dad, Beth and her DBs and Redruby and all who would like one or needs one.
I have some paperwork to do but, TBH, I'm not in that sort of mood today!
Sammy - at least someone with medical training has spoken to your OH but the treatment is really disgusting - no-one should have to go through that. I would make an official complaint asap. I hope he gets the attention he deserves today.
Well, I'd better go and have a shower and tidy up and then, Pippa, I have to finish my half-pimped boob!
See you all later and hope at least some of us have a dry-ish day!
