I've lost the OS Caramelised Nut Recipe
Fancied making some sugary cinnamon spiced nuts this afternoon but having searched for about an hour for the recipe I'm admitting defeat. I got it off here months ago (it used sugar, butter, cinnamon and perhaps some other spices but I can't remember the quantities) but have moved into my new kitchen and lost it in the…

Veg Curry?
This might sound a bit of a daft question but what sort of vegetables would you use in a vegetable curry? I don't get paid til Thursday so I'm trying to use up what I have in my cupboards and freezer til then, I have a curry sauce in the cupboard but no meat so was going to try a veg one? I have the following: Potatoes…

Wrights Breadmix - Calories
Hey there... hoping some of you with breadmakers can help me out. I've tried googling but never get the answer I need and, like all things, I want the info now. I am trying to find out how many calories there are in a whole bag of wrights breadmix. Not "per portion" or "per 100g made up". But as it is. And I figure the…

Hello i'm new here. Can I make a cheeky request?
Hiya, I've lurked here before a little bit, and I like to think I do have some old style principles. I always cook from scratch and I freeze my leftovers. I've just come from my first post on the debt-free board because someone said you people might be able to help me cut my shopping bill. I was going to post my entire…

Using a food processor
Hello all. I hope you can help me. I've never used a food processor and have recently received an old model from a freecycler. Trouble is I have yet to use it. I have no idea what to do - what to make and how to prepare it. Please has anyone got recipes and instructions so I can give it a try, or is there already a food…

Butter out of fridge
Hi... About a week ago I bought butter and never put it in the fridge - can I still bake with it? I wouldn't ask, but I'm sure butter used to live out of fridges and apart from a bit of yellowing it still smells like butter. Stupid disorganised me - I put the bag with cans on the side, not checking for perishables. :o

Woodworm?
I was lucky enough to obtain an art-deco style Mahogany (?) unit from Freecycle that is a little battered and bruised. It is my intention to give it a little tlc and enjoy it. However, I have come across some rather suspect holes that look distinctly like woodworm. I feel it is unlikely to be an infestation, but would…

Stained work surface
Yesterday a leaking freezer block left a small but luminous blue stain on my white kitchen work surface. No gentle methods worked, so I tried neat bleach. I now have a much larger pale yellow stain. The surface is not tough; I know from experience that I can't use anything abrasive, as that turns it from matte to very…

Saving hair?!
I've been reading one of the Little House on the Prairie books (where you can find out lots about OS-ing!) and one Christmas when they're all snowed in, Laura makes her mother a cardboard 'hair receiver' for her dressing-table so that she can make a 'hair switch'. Does anyone have any idea what a hair switch is?

As both my DDs have gone veggie now, I stocked up on dried beans, wondered if any of you have any really good recipes using beans. One I would really like is for good beanburgers, I love the frozen ones you can buy but would like to make my own. Have gone veggie myself just to see if I can, was tempted by meat at work for…

OS tips for new stay at home mummy!
Hey all I'm flitting around MSE a bit this evening for advice, and here is my next stop! Just been made redundant, will be at home with my two DDs (1 and 4) for the near future so money going to be tight. I'm very looking forward to meal planning, I used to do this a while ago but slipped. Any tips for meal planning on a…

recipe website help
Just wondering if anyone here can help DS has to make up a recipe that contains Vitamin B nutrients - e.g. Yeast extract, eggs milk and so on. Years ago I used a website that you entered the ingredients you had and it would give you a recipe. It wouldn't be cheating as he has to do the rest of the assignment on his own -…
