Butter out of fridge

Hi...
About a week ago I bought butter and never put it in the fridge - can I still bake with it? I wouldn't ask, but I'm sure butter used to live out of fridges and apart from a bit of yellowing it still smells like butter.
Stupid disorganised me - I put the bag with cans on the side, not checking for perishables.

personally i would say it was ok to use.
i remember as a kid, my mum didn't keep the butter in the fridge, as it was too hard to spreadenjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0 -
It's hardly been tropical this week - if it smells ok I'd definitely use it!Resolution:

It should be fine. We keep ours out all the time except in the summer in a butterdish so that we can spread it. It goes too soft in summer.Do what you love :happyhear0

my nan used to keep it in a butter dish, and never had a problem spreading it on bread. I use Lurpak 'spreadable' butter. (kept in the fridge) It never bluddy spreads and always tears the bread:rolleyes:Capital one was £1000.00 now £0.00:j
Barclaycard was £250.00 now £190. 00
Asda credit card was £500.00 now £0.00:j

You can tell if its "gone off" by the smell. I have discovered that Morrisons own butter (of any quality) cannot be left out for more than a few hours before it smalls "off". Other ones seem fine.0

Thank you thank you. I guess baking with it would kill anything. My parents keep butter out, but not for weeks! I'll smell it properly again when I unwrap it whole, just to make sure. Yum.:wall:0

I keep the butter out of the fridge all the time and it comes to no harm. But then again there are 6 in this household so a pack of butter doesnt exactly last long. But it should be fine

Don't leave it on top of a combi oven. I made this mistake as it liquified all over the place.0
