Cheap Wholemeal Flour
Good Evening, Hopefully a quick question. Can we have your best price on wholemeal flour? We have been making very cheap loaves in our breadmaker using Asda Smartprice plain white flour (27p for three loaves) but for health reasons we have been advised to switch to whole foods like wholemeal bread. When buying shop-bought…

Quick common sense Q - cooking fruit??
I have been given a carrier bag of pears and am making a pear crumble. The pears were given to me a week ago so now they are probably overripe. I have been told by two people that I need to cook the pears first but now I am thinking that they shouldn't be cooked as they are REALLY soft already. Can anyone confirm or deny…

Do BM quick yeasts vary ?
I've just made a 'quick' med size, white loaf in my Panasonic and used for the first time Tesco's Fast action yeast. Up to now I've always used Allinsons yeast. Everything about the loaf was the same as I always do - same flour, same measures of sugar, milk powder, salt, I use oil not butter, water, but the loaf is like a…

Our longhaired cat needs to go to the vet if she doesn't eat a bit of the stuff daily (vomits badly and gets hairy poos  TMI - sorry!). Even with careful brushing. Cheap Cookshop - Online or Local
I'm getting interested in making preserves and a lot of old style cooking practices and I was wondering if anyone knew of any particularly inexpensive cookshops online or in the London area (or anywhere else - I'm sure it'll be useful for someone else too). I’ve had a look around the site and a number are mentioned but not…

Going shopping this weekend - need to be a bit more OS
I've got the monthly shop to do this weekend and although we do cook a lot of food from scratch I could do with a few ideas to improve on this. Generally we have things like casseroles, spag bol etc but I could do with replacing some of the convenience food we eat to save money (and eat healthier of course). The main issue…

Fridgidaire Slow Cooker
Does anyone have one of these, and if so are they any good? Saisbury has a 5.5 litre one at half-price (£19.99) and I am very tempted to buy. It would match my kitchen so well (stainless steel/black)! However, I have an old Tower one (cream/brown), which I think is 3 litre, which I use a lot and it works really well and…
