A bit of help needed

Does anyone know what the difference is between dark rum and and the white rum that you add to coke to drink.I like to put rum in my xmas cake and have white rum in the house should I buy the dark rum or will the white do ?:confused:

  • I think the dark rum is made from mollasis sugar which is why its dark and has a richer flavour. White rum is - well made from white sugar?
    For a cake you will need the dark stuff and don't forget the cook!!! x

    Thanks for your tip, I better get the dark then I'll have the white with a coke to celebrate while it bakes.Will get it made over the weekend .I'll soak the fruit in the rum tomorrow night and make it on Sunday :T

    Agree with the others - we prefer dark rum in a cake. However, I think the dark rum is the best choice because its so very versatile...

    Its good for cakes, but any leftovers can also be drunk with coke - how handy is that...!?! ;):p :rotfl:

  • coke..................or peppermint....... or blackcurrant......sound like an old mans drink:rolleyes: - but dilute a bit with (still) water - and both are refreshing and different (oh, and NICE:D ........and don't really work with White Rum, which is better mixed with cola or pineapple..........and NOT in Crimbly cakes!!!!:p

    Actually ! when thinking about it I can get a big bottle of dark rum and use the rest in the summer to do a Rumtof german for Rumpot never done one for years and the longer it stands the better ( lovely on ice cream ):j
