Quick common sense Q - cooking fruit??

I have been given a carrier bag of pears and am making a pear crumble. The pears were given to me a week ago so now they are probably overripe.
I have been told by two people that I need to cook the pears first but now I am thinking that they shouldn't be cooked as they are REALLY soft already.
Can anyone confirm or deny this please!?

Peronally I wouldn't cook them because as you say, they are soft. They will just turn to a puree if you do,I should imagine. Pears always go soft when cooking anyway.0

I wouldn't cook them either. They seem soft enough already.

Hi,
If they are ripe then you don't need to cook them first... I put them straight all the time when making crumbles , pies etc..as we have a pear tree in the garden and are awash with pears we eat alot of deserts made with pears ...
