Guinea pigs
We have 2 elderly guinea pigs (well DD has) and use newspaper and sawdust to line the cage and straw in the 'bedroom' section. The idea is they make a nest in the straw and keep warm. Being guinea pigs of very little brain they end up sleeping on top of the straw, not in it - but there is nothing I can do about that!…

Quince
Hi, I've been given a lovely big bag of Japenese quince by a friend. I'm hoping to make quince jelly but I'm about to go on holiday. I will be away for a week and a half and my friend says she picked them almost a week ago. Will they last until I get back? What would be the best way to store them? At the moment they are in…

Californian Duster
After reading about Stardrops (I have yet to get hold of any) it reminded me of what I consider a good purchase. A Californian Duster. You can buy these from Lakeland, they are better than the cheap imitations. When I dust I flick this thing over all the furniture for quick easy dusting. It is a hand held sort of cotton…

Slow cooker help
I'm being a bit of a donut with my slow cooker. When recipes say 'put it on for 5 hours'... they mean put it on low? And just to double check :-) my cooker has a base unit, a pot that goes in that and a lid. I just put everything in the pot and put the lid on? For some reason I think there needs to be some…

More-with-Less Cookbook - help please!
I know there are quite a lot of people on OS who love this book but I just can't seem to get on with it. Can anyone point me in the direction of the recipes in it which they find work well? I can't really put my finger on what I find difficult to get on with. It's definitely not the American thing, and I was hoping that a…

Using ordinary flour in breadmaker?
I wondered how many of you used ordinary plain flour in your breadmakers and is it just as successful at the strong bread flour? I think it may be the strong flour that is causing my stomach problems and may switch the flour Im using.
