Quince

Hi,
I've been given a lovely big bag of Japenese quince by a friend. I'm hoping to make quince jelly but I'm about to go on holiday. I will be away for a week and a half and my friend says she picked them almost a week ago. Will they last until I get back? What would be the best way to store them? At the moment they are in my shed.
Thanks for your help.

Hi, Rhubarbs,
I know quinces from a quince tree (cydonia oblonga) will keep in a cool place for several weeks - there's a huge box of them in my garage;) but I can't find any reference in any of my cookery books to japonica quinces (chaemoneles japonica). I do remember my mum making jelly out of them and it was lovely. I would imagine that they would keep for a couple of weeks as they are a hard fruit. If I were you I'd store them somewhere cool and dry and make sure they aren't touching each other. Sorry I can't be of more help:)0
