Wheat Free???
Not sure of this is the right thread to place this post? My sister has been told that she may have an allergy to Wheat and therefore needs to try a Wheat free diet. In the bottom of my fridge
i have a medium sized turnip and several small uncooked beetroots that i want to use up. I've just put a pan of soup on to use up the other turnip/parsnip/carrot/swede that was lurking down there so i'd rather not do soup with it, what do you all recommend? :) I'll go and browse the recipe index in the meantime :)

Did a silly thing with my Belling Cooker!
I have just bought a Belling range cooker which has brushed alluminium doors, there was a mark on one of the doors and I used a scourer to clean it (I know a stupid thing to do) I meant to use the sponge side!. Now you can see slight scratches on the door that really show up in the light, is there anything I can do - aside…

Early planning - pancake party
I think I've just managed to volunteer to organise a pancake party for 30-40 people on Shrove Tuesday. Goodness only knows how that happened  One of the purposes of the party is to raise funds for our church's Restoration Appeal. I need to plan a menu that's cheap but really tasty so that we make a good profit…

Cooking on the GF grill
I don't suppose anyone has their booklet handy with the cooking times for the large GF grill do they? Silly me packed mine away somewhere and now I can't find it LOL! I can't remember whether it's ok to cook burgers from frozen on it or do I need to defrost them first? And how many minutes do they take and…

Old pickling vinegar uses?
Can you re-use piclking vinegar? I've got some I used for onions and it seems a waste to throw it away; if I can't re-pickle with it is there another use? (think I'm becoming a bit weird as nothing goes in the bin now without a thorough "what else could I do with this" examination: OK but I have a very small house)

How do I make a 1920's dress?
I need to make a 1920's style flapper dress for my daughter for a school dance at Easter. I have a little curtain-making experience, but anything more complicated than a rectangle and I struggle a bit. Any ideas for inspiration? PS daughter is 9 but wears age 11-12 clothes.

Washing-up as in the bed-sit (1978)
Inspired by this forum, I've just washed-up the way I used to in the bed-sit when I didn't have access to hot water. This is instead of heating up the immersion heater for one hour every day. There is only me, so not a huge amount of dishes. Wipe all excess food debris off with one piece of kitchen paper. Using diluted…

Fruit bowl or fridge?
I have always kept my fruit in the fridge because I think it keeps it fresher and is more likely to preserve the nutrients. Also when I juice the fruit/veg it is nice that it comes out chilled. My mum was surprised I didn't have a fruit bowl on display, she thought it was quite sad almost! I agree it's attractive, and…
