I have always kept my fruit in the fridge because I think it keeps it fresher and is more likely to preserve the nutrients. Also when I juice the fruit/veg it is nice that it comes out chilled.
My mum was surprised I didn't have a fruit bowl on display, she thought it was quite sad almost! I agree it's attractive, and might inspire one to eat more fruit, but have stuck with my fridge as I think the light etc takes vitamins out of the fruit.
So what's best? What do other OSers do?

I tend to keep mine out of the fridge otherwise I forget about them! Wouldn't put bananas in the fridge anyway as they go black... I agree with cheekymole though grapes are better in the fridge!0

I keep bananas in a bowl and put everything else in the fridge.I put pears and plums or nectarines in the bowl with the bananas for a day or so first as this helps them ripen up.bye hoo0

I do both - I have the bulk of the fruit in the fridge, but have some of everything in the fruit bowl because
a) the fruit keeps better in the fridge
b) it is more likely to be eaten in the fruit bowl and
c) I don't like eating cold fruit in anything other than REALLY warm weather (which we don't get that often this far north...)
Edited to add I don't keep bananas in the fridge or melon in the fruit bowl....0 -
I keep bananas, apples and oranges in my fruit bowl, that way my children can see it and are more inclined to eat it!!! things like grapes, strawberries, pineapple i keep in the fridge. as i find they keep better there, however, i have to remember its in there as sometimes i will find a bit of fruit a few weeks old in the bottom thats been forgotten, which is why the more daily fruits are kept in the bowl!!!!

Bananas and apples in the fruit bowl (neither last long in this house). Oranges in the fridge then into the fruit bowl one or two at a time.
Everything else in the fridge but then I have to remember to take it out in time to warm up before it is ready to eat; cold fruit just doesn't taste right to me somehowMy first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

These two links might be of interest as well. They, and others, are in the Food section of the MEGA Index sticky listed under "storage".

I keep our fruit in the fridge,I think it lasts longer,I used to keep it in the fruit bowl but the fruit seemed to go all wrinkly.0

I keep my bananas in the fridge (top shelf) and they don't go black because I put them in several brown paper bags. I buy my slightly green bananas on a Friday and I'm able to use them all the next week without them being over ripe.0
