Washing-up as in the bed-sit (1978)

Inspired by this forum, I've just washed-up the way I used to in the bed-sit when I didn't have access to hot water. This is instead of heating up the immersion heater for one hour every day. There is only me, so not a huge amount of dishes.
Wipe all excess food debris off with one piece of kitchen paper. Using diluted washing-up liquid, wash everything in cold water, and drain. Meanwhile, boil one kettle of water and use this boiling water to rinse and sterilise the things---cutlery first, held over (say) a mug, which rinses it, then plates, then any pans. Water goes into washing-up bowl, then used for tidying drainer.
Any remaining water in the kettle is used to rinse the sink and plughole.
Much simpler and far more economic than wasting large amounts of hot water from the immersion, and just as effective.

would the cold water actually get rid of the grease though?
if not the boiling water would just be sterilising the food deposits still on the plates,
wouldn't it be easier to use the kettle full of water to actually wash the pots and then when clean rinse in cold waterI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. I used to wash up like that too. Now I wash up when the bowl is full and that seems to save on water and gas.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040
