Can I use Golden Syrup instead of honey

I have a lovely piece of smoked gammon in the Freezer that I bought just before Christmas (reduced from £7 to £3.50 and well in date)

I wanted to use it this weekend by cooking in SC then finishing off in hot oven with Honey and maybe mustard glaze - I don't have any Honey left but have loads of Golden Syrup - could I use this instead

Thanks in advance for you advice

Ang

I'd give it a go - probably be lovely.

The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

Yes! I love gammon with syrup topping. Just be careful not to overcook as the syrup burns :)

I used to have golden syrup sandwiches (and sugar sandwiches) as a kid; didn't taste honey till I left home.

Definitely try it,I've done a ham with black treacle which was good.

I love Golden Syrup, its such a British ingredient.I tried the Tesco version, but it just doesn't taste like Lyle's.The tin design hasn't changed for years, like the Marmite jar and the Worcester Sauce bottle-makes me feel all nostalgic ;)

I get through loads of G.S 'cos I make flapjacks for my children's school healthy tuck shop. They're not actually that healthy;the oats are but the butter(has to be butter),sugar and syrup aren't :o still, that's what I'm asked to make, flapjacks and muffins(I gather the teachers eat most of them).
  • thanks all

I will try the cola ham - maybe not this week as I don't have any black treacle and am watching me pennies

    Cheers
