Kenwood Chef

Hi,

I hope that someone can help me. I recently purchased a second hand Kenwood Chef which is in very good condition and hardly been used at all. I went to use it New Years Eve to whip some cream and when I turned the speed up I saw smoke coming from the motor area. Has anyone else experienced this and if so what did you do about it. Not sure whether it needs servicing or what?

Thanking you in anticipation of your help.

Susan

you shouldn`t see smoke Susan. Did it smell or could it be water vapour, perhaps due to the last owner washing it? Try once again and if it smokes again then don`t use it unless you get it serviced

Thanks for your reply, yes it did smell but I didn't leave it on long enough!! I have been too scared to try again just in case I wreck it, so thought I would ask on here in case someone else had experienced this. Do you happen to know how much it costs to have one of these serviced?

    Thanks.

I don`t. If it smells then it could be the motor. Don`t let anyone try and use it as it could be dangerous. Did you get it from ebay? If so and if you paid via paypal then you could do a chargeback as it isn`t in safe working condition

Sounds like the motors burned out to me.

No I didn't buy it from ebay, it was from my friends mother so know it has come from a reputable place, but as she admitted herself it hasn't been used for a while except with the liquidiser attachment on the top to make breadcrumbs!!!!

my local engineer charges £15 plus parts, to service a Kenwood

if you go to the Kenwood site, there is a bit to find your local service specialist

if it doesnt list one local so you can drop it off, some of the engineers in other areas will do it, but obviously you have to pay postage. think i was quoted £15 return by one company

however, i found my service engineer through my local 'old boys' electrical/hardware shop, as kenwood said i dont have one local to me??

As an engineer that doesn't sound very good at all. I'd certainly look into sending it back as unfit etc..

If that's awkward we can give you links to Kenwood's website where you could get a replacement motor from. Or belt, it could be... hm... or they might help you find a local accredited repair shop.
