Cambelt change needed, VW Golf 04?
My Golf 2.0 TDI is 4 years old but has only done 30k miles. I've been advised by the local dealer that the cambelt needs changing. On my only previous vehicle (Ford) I had to do this at 80k miles, and that's what the Golf service book also indicates. Is this work necessary? If it is, is there anybody who will do it with…

Most days I sit in the car (when it is hot) and eat my lunch with the engine running so that the air con is on. Assuming that my car would normally do about 40 mpg does anyone have any idea how much fuel i would use in 20/30 minutes?

Couple of hours later had to top up again, and again and…

Forget Travel card, penatly, need to show travel card
Hi, hope this is the right place for this. I get a monthly travel card for the train communt to work. Last week I forgot it and was issues with a no payment penalty fair, which gives me 21 days to produce the ticket or pay the fine. That all sounds very reasonable except. I seem to have to send off for my appeal against…

However, neither of us have ever owned a diesel so have no idea about things to check when looking at the car. I have found loads of checklists for what to look for when looking for a petrol…

Proton Compact 1.3 Duo
Would any of you MSE'ers happen to own (or know someone who does) a Proton Compact 1.3 and if so, would you mind sharing your experiences with this car? A colleague is considering purchasing a 1999 model that has relatively low mileage c)50K and is in excellent condition. The thing that's putting him off is that a couple…

Meguiars cleaning products - where to get them
Hi, I use certain Meguiars cleaning products for my car. Really worth using despite the slightly inflated price as they do the job very well. The reason for my post is where to get the products from. I normally go to Halfords as this is the only place available. I've tried Ebay but by the time you add postage it works out…

I've made a mpg improvement with an aftermarket chip. Surprised.
I generally have a low opinion of engine chip "upgrades", having seen rolling road tests with no gains or losses and increased fuel consumption. In February there was a cheap deal on BMW engine Evolve chips. £30 for a chip, and I was told that it was worth it. Being cynical I decided to buy one and test it on a rolling…

advice - selling car, rectify all faults?
Hi, after 4 years the family Multipla is being sold ( nicknamed by my wife as the Arkinsaw chugabug (?wacky races)). Question is - there are a few dings, and in particular some mild damage to a front bumper where a suicidal pheasant met a sticky end. Should I rectify all the faults and try to get full whack, or leave them…
