Proton Compact 1.3 Duo

Would any of you MSE'ers happen to own (or know someone who does) a Proton Compact 1.3 and if so, would you mind sharing your experiences with this car? A colleague is considering purchasing a 1999 model that has relatively low mileage c)50K and is in excellent condition.

The thing that's putting him off is that a couple of the online car sites say it isn't particularly economical on petrol despite being only a 1.3 litre engine. I think Parkers quote something like a 35mpg average. Is this correct?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

David.

I am not sure what engine the compact has but I know the other protons of that era use previous generation misubishi engine, so it is not going to be as efficiant as a new car, probably 15 years difference in technology.

However it all depends of driving style and the way the car drives as to the realistic MPG you will get. If size is not important I would recommend a 1998-2002 Suzuki Swift 1.0l to anyone, I used to get 55mpg combined.
