What about an article on annual services and repairs for cars?
We've just been landed with a bill of £650 for annual service plus repairs to brakes and suspension on our car. :( I'm pretty sure the garage is not having us on. Although I don't know a huge amount about cars, it's pretty difficult to argue with people who say your brake pads are dangerously thin and your suspension will…

Looking for a porsche 944 ecu
Hi, my garage has told me that the ecu for my 1988 porsche 944 has failed. The cost for a new ecu is very expensive. I've gotten some quotes to have the ecu repaired, but repairing it is also very expensive. I'd be keen to get advice on getting a 2nd hand ecu instead of buying new. The ecu is a Bosch motronic…

Tool shopping: hydraulic presses.
I'm looking into buying a hydraulic press so I can change wheel bearings and push suspension bushes in etc. I've had a quick look round the net and it looks like I need to spend around £200 to get a decent 10 tonne unit. For example: Clarke £199 inc VAT http://www.machinemart.co.uk/product.asp?p=020410030&r=2054&g=107…

Oystercard took an extra £4. Anyone know why?
I think I do know why actually but I thought I'd better check and it's certainly not my fault. On saturday I was going to travel from Stratford to Camden on the tube. Half way there there the train stopped for ages and eventually there was an announcement that there was a problem with the line and everyone must get off and…

Car buying options - high mileage
I do a 120 mile daily commute, plus reasonably regular additional work-related journeys. Add this to personal use, and I reckon I’m looking at around 35,000 miles a year. I’ve managed to secure a car allowance from work (haven’t figured out what it translates to post-tax yet) and want to replace my current car before I…

Why won't my wheel go round?
I've been getting noises/wobble coming from the front wheels of the car ('96 Lexus GS300, 90,000 miles) so I jacked it up today for a look. The offside front wheel will not spin freely - it's an effort to turn it at all. The brakes appeared to be stuck on as there was no movement when my assistant pressed the pedal (with…
