Originally bought my car 18 months ago from Netwrok Q / Vauxhall, and got the Waaranty with it etc.. its an 03 plate and like i say i purchased it 18 month ago, i took it into VX last week for a Health check and they said the Wheel bearing was "on its way out" and the EGR Valve was knackered (Tech 2 Diagnosis + EML was on) so as my warranty had run out on 30 November 06 i have emailed Netwrok Q and had a whinge really, as i see it surely a wheel bearing fault is either "long term" in developing and should of at least been picked up with the and i quote "114 Point Check" and again with the EGR Valve been such a common problem with MK4 Astra's they could of replaced it or warned me there common problems. Anyway after getting quotes from VX for the repairs of EGR Valve £ 69.95 (Exc VAT) + fitting charge and the bearing £170(Ex VAT) + a fitting charge i dont see why i have to cover this so i have emailed Netwrok Q and asked them to reapir this, they have forwarded my complaint to the manager (Apparently) and will get back to me.

Just wondered if im been a little "out of order" or if anyone else has had dealings with them and what their responses are like?

Cheers Jon

  • Fair play for trying - you have nothing to lose, however it was a used car when you bought it and it is 4 years old. How many miles has it done?

and for 1 none of the others just 1 bearing to go after 30.000 miles is ridiculous and it should of been checked at the inspection and picked up as wearing clearly a faulty one otherwise all 4 bearings would be on there way out not just one. Used or not they should still go for a while at least longer than the 8000 miles ive done in it since owning it.
  • £170 plus vat for a wheel bearing, you must be joking. If this cost vauxhall more than £20 from the bearing manufacture i would be suprised.

VX are good for robbing you the best bit was the hourly labour charge which is £70 Per Hour lmao
  • £70 per hours probably pretty standard for a main dealer, and at the end of the day they are going to be the quickest at doing the job, having had the practice and all the specialist tools to hand.

It's the cost of the bearing that's to high. Can you not get and aftermarket bearing kit for it. As long as the bearing in the kit is from one of the big names eg skf, rgp etc then the quality will be as good as from vauxhall. In fact it will more than likley be the same bearing from the same manufacturer.
