Help with lowering car costs

I'm trying to find a cheaper car for my dad, as his transport costs are ridiculous

He has full no claims, but is still paying £31.15 a month for insurance :eek: Have researched several companies and it's around the same, lowest is £26 per month

So it must be the car...

FORD MONDEO 2.5I (96-99) SI 5DR 2544cc 5DR

Worth about £1k (he thinks), he does approx 10-12k mileage a year

Can anyone suggest a smaller/cheaper car which could handle this mileage?

(Personally I don't see why he couldn't have a 1.2 but apparently it "couldn't handle the miles" My car does no problem)

get a smaller car

we run a old polo banger , it doesnt look trendy but its been ultra reliable for nearly 40k over 3 years

parts are dirt cheap, its in a low road tax bracket and we pay £95 fully comp insurance (that was with £50 cashback at post office)

10-12 k is average...any half decent car can easily do that mlage if its looked after and serived on time
