wana motoring section? mechanic needed!
Options
Hi guys
am i going blind or is there no motoring section on here? I dont know if this is the right section or not so sorry if not.
Just wanted some car advice. I have a leak (ahem) on the cooling system somewhere and Ive been told because of where it is it wont be cheap to fix. However someone has told me that you can buy some kind of self sealing liquid or something that you put in and it goes through the pipes and wheres theres a crack it seals it up. At the mo im having to put water in the car every couple of days!
Any advice anyone? Anybody know what it is?!

I've just started entering the competitions (July 07). When I win I'll update this signature. Look on the bright side, I shouldn't have to update it very often.

Hello lawtz04
Your thread will be better placed in the 'Motoring & Public Transport' board, so I'll move it across.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

yes there are some radiator sealant products available, it depends where and why its leaking, sometimes it can work pretty well, and sometimes it can mae things by clogging parts of the cooling system up0

so shall i take it to my mechanics and just enquire as to what i need??I've just started entering the competitions (July 07). When I win I'll update this signature. Look on the bright side, I shouldn't have to update it very often.0

As above and just pour it in and make sure you let car warm up and run for a while. If that doesn't work you will have to go and see you local (non main dealer) mechanic for advise.0 -
ask what the fault is
if its headgasket or a leakey water pump etc it wont cure it....if its a pinhole in your radiator it probably will
post back when you know what the prob is0 -
Radweld won't work for long though.Happy chappy0

It depends on how much the car is worth. If it's decent, get it fixed properly, otherwise Radweld will do the job fine. I had an old Hyundai that leaked quite badly where a metal pipe was pushed into the engine block. The radweld stopped it and was still holding when I sold it 3 years later.
The downside is that the coolant goes quite thick and soupy and the rubber washer on the coolant expansion bottle swelled up to twice its normal size. Which is why I wouldn't use it on a 'decent' car.0
