How Long Til Insurance Pay Out?

Hi

What is the normal amount of time for insurance companies to pay out when the car is written off? It's been a month now, I know they were closed xmas day, boxing day & new years day but it seems to be taking forever.

Is this normal or should I be going mad?

I assume that you have accepted their offer and supplied ALL the documents they requested,

On this basis a month is ample time to allow for settlement and suggest you pressure them for the cheque.

When I was in claims 28 days was the normal target but a few of the more "dynamic" companies targeted themselves on 14 days.

As you say, Xmas is always slower due to garages closing, increased accident frequencies due to winter weather and the backlog that both of these cause.

I sent all my documents recorded delivery yes, I haven't been offered anything to yet, that's what I'm waiting for.

We were involved in an accident on 7th December last year. The car was classed as a write off on 13th DEcember. We got the cheque before Xmas. The insurer was Norwich Union and there was no 3rd party involved so they were able to pay out very quickly.

There was no 3rd party involved with mine either, it should be straight forward really, think I'll ring them again now.

Each company has different time scales for pay outs, they aim to settle any claim as quickly as possible. Now its worth calling them asking the state of play, just remind them how long the claim has been going on too
