Are you prepared?
Having just tried to log onto my bank account and found it was down I was hit with the realisation of how I live life so close to the edge money wise! I just expect things to work. But what if there was an unexpected occurrence? Bad weather meant the internet was cut off or the water or power goes out? Do you have…

So what happens now?
Sorry for this long post, but putting things down in writing is a big help. I have long been wondering what to do about my job and life. I am 45, my own place but not married and no kids. I have been in my job 20 years but we had an office move 5 years ago resulting in a long commute , nearly 4 hours a day, with no…

What advice would you give
I know I haven't been around long but been a been lurker before eventually signing up. The community here seems great for telling people how it is, good or bad! Basically, I'm going through what I probably consider in my own terms a quarter life crisis. I'm 24 and completely lost about what I want to do in life, and I feel…

Divorce squabbles
Dear MSErs, After 13 years of marriage, my husband and I are getting divorced. We have 2 kids together aged 9&7. They are fine so no problem there. However, the difficulty I'm having is getting ex to agree to financial arrangements. The house we jointly own is worth about £400k. Ex has moved out and is renting. I suggested…

Changing dating strategy? Any ideas please?
So I'm trying yet again with online dating - I know I gave up a couple of weeks ago but unfortunately there just isn't really any other easy way to meet new people (certainly not for me anyway). I've set myself a target to message at least one person every day. I know that doesn't sound a lot but I really find going…

My girlfriend's family is ruining our relationship?
So me and my girlfriend will make a year in a matter of a few day and I love her to bits. Yet things have been a little messy over these last few months. We're both 20 and met at university. She's Bulgarian, and the first week we got together, she opened up to me that she was broke. She had come over to England in hope…

Intergenerational Land Dispute - It's About What Is Right.
Hello. I do not think i have posted on here before, and if i have it must be many moons ago. So please be gentle. I have a long story to tell before i get to the point, so pull up a pew, grab a brew and a biccie, and make yourself comfortable. My Grandad, on my Dad's side, was a mechanic. He had his own plot of land and…

Uni student coming home for holidays
My eldest is away living in halls at uni, but is coming home over Christmas. Possibly for two weeks but he hasn't decided yet! He asked if I wanted any money off him to cover his food etc. I'd never really thought about that to be honest! I said I didn't mind him paying nothing but he insists he should pay something. Do…

Hypnobirthing - what are people's experiences?
Hi all, I'm currently 28 weeks pregnant and have been considering using hypnobirthing at this baby's birth if it is possible. I know that classes are really pricey, and was wondering what people's experiences have been (either going to classes, or using cds etc to do it themselves). Did you use it during your birth in the…

Totally lost and confused
Forgive me if I ramble! Today my new husband and I were due to fly out on our honeymoon from Manchester airport (we live in Glasgow). We arrived at the airport and gate well ahead of time but unfortunately my hubby suffered a panic attack over flying (1st time attack). We told the staff gave them our boarding pass and…

Wedding cake
Hi everyone, My closest friend got engaged recently - very happy times :) I offered to make their wedding cake, which was enthusiastically accepted by my friend, it was understood that I would offer previously as I'm a keen baker and they like my cakes a lot. However after checking with their partner, I'm told they'd like…

Another age gap relationship.
Reading about Han's 16 year age gap in the weekly email made me decide to speak about my relationship. Our age gap is only 10 years though. I was single for 6 years after divorcing my cheating rat of an ex husband. He lived a double life, and the times when he was away working. He was with another woman who he had a son…

3-d reality headset - present for 13 year old? Views please!
As the heading says - I'd appreciate the views of others on the validity or not of getting 3-d headset for my 13 year old GD. I first thought of this when I saw an advert for it on tv and thought what a good idea - then started to have second thoughts.... I'm pretty sure that she would love it - but wonder whether it might…

This week's MoneySaver who wants advice asks... I'm going for a boozy get-together with a group of old school friends. We're meeting in a town where one of us lives but the rest of us are staying in a hotel as he has young children. I hadn't seen my sister since 1995...
...until she visited me in hospital, quite the surprise. Now we phone each other every couple of weeks and meet up for a coffee sometimes. It's quite eerie how similar we are in many regards after taking very different paths in life.
