Forgive me if I ramble!
Today my new husband and I were due to fly out on our honeymoon from Manchester airport (we live in Glasgow). We arrived at the airport and gate well ahead of time but unfortunately my hubby suffered a panic attack over flying (1st time attack). We told the staff gave them our boarding pass and we're told we'd be "boarded" while they got a paramedic to clear him to fly.
The whole time the paramedic is checking him over there was a ground staff man keeping us on time. We finally calmed him enough to board and get to the desk to be told we've been off-loaded and they couldn't load us. No warning nothing! We were then made to sit at gate for a further 25 mins with the plane still on stand (was still there when we were leaving).
our tour operator doesn't fly again until Tuesday from here and say it's all our fault and we unloaded ourselves, even though the last I heard was we were marked as boarded and still had time. They say if we get to the resort via another airline we can continue as normal and come back as normal. So we check easyJet and they have several empty seats on a flight tomorrow but when we go to book it only lets us buy one seat and their contact centre shuts at 8pm.
So now we're stuck as to what to do... we can't get to any other airport because the car needs to be here for our return and every other method is too expensive.
I'm totally drained and thinking we should just go home.

Sorry to hear this. May have been a good idea to have done a short trial flight to somewhere first, rather than making the first flight of your hubby's on your honeymoon. But too late now.

I fear there is nothing you can do, except put this down to (a bad) experience and return home. I doubt anyone will be compensating you as it's just one of those unfortunate things that wasn't anyone's fault... Then maybe go book something else for the spring as a late honeymoon.
Congratulations by the way (on getting married.) Hope you will have many happy years together.Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

He's flown several times before it's just been this flight today that did it, totally out of the blue.
I'm not looking for compensation but had they told us time was running out I might have pushed a bit harder.
I am just hoping that easyJet can get us another seat in the flight tomorrow. I just don't understand this shutting at 8 thing... what if ppl need urgent assistance.0 -
?Where are you now?'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore'0 -
Where do you want to fly to tomorrow?Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -

Sorry, yeah I see first time attack now, not first time flight.
You could contact the airline and see if you could get any compensation, as it wasn't really your fault (or hubby's.) You may not get anywhere, but it's worth a try.
Did you use a travel agent for the trip, or do it or yourself? If yourself, then you probably won't have any luck with the money you spent on the hotel.
Good luck.

Nope, it won't fly, no pun intended. No need to give them hope of sort of compensation, in no way was it the airline's fault. The best they can hope hope for is to get seats on an early flight tomorrow, that they will have to pay for, and still make it to their destination and hotel..etc.0 -
I'm so sorry that it's come to that. Don't blame the company, they have strict timeframes and any delay occur huge penalties. It would seem to you and I that there was still plenty of time, but the reality will be very different. They might also have not told you because they could have been told at the last second that they needed to be prepared to go now by the tower, even if in the end, they missed their slot, so were left waiting after all. Nothing they or you could have done.
What I would do is really appeal to anyone to help you. It is your honeymoon and people will be sympathetic if you don't go about it trying to blame anyone. Your husband had a bad turn, it happens, he shouldn't feel guilty, it's the first testing of 'for better and for worse'.
I really hope you find a way to go there today. Good luck.0 -
We're still at Manchester airport @karcher and we just want to get to marrakech @ms chocoholic it's only a 1 week honeymoon.
I'm willing to pay for flights it's just I can only get 1 seat guaranteed the other would be standby. I'm not looking for compensation just an admission that they were feeding us inaccurate info.0 -
I would suggest that your hubby see the doctor to get some free counselling. These things do not happen out of the blue, though I hate to say the obvious to the lost and confused. As the panic attack would have greater probability to appear for a rescheduled honeymoon. When you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you. Nietzsche
Please note that at no point during this work was the kettle ever put out of commission and no chavs were harmed during the making of this post.0 -
Why not see if other airports than Manchester have flights to Marrakesh? Train to London and you're just another short train ride to Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton. Or Glasgow or Newcastle maybe? Good luck!
Edit: sorry just read your post fully. Couldn't you go from another airport and fly back to Manchester to your car? You can buy a two together railcard for 30 quid and that gets you a third off rail travel if you did want to consider another airport.0
