Neighbour would like us to replace leaning fence urgently.
We have a fence in our garden which is separates our garden from the neighbours behind. It runs at 45 degree angle rather than a straight forward 90 degree running fence (the usual directly right/left lateral fences parallel to most peoples' homes) . I remember the solicitor saying that it was contentious as to who was…

Solar panel installation - "local authority scheme"?
Hi all, I've been told by a friend about a scheme apparently being run by their local authority to install solar panels for free. However, after doing some research online, all I could find was the Green Homes Grant which was closed as of March 2021 (see https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-the-green-homes-grant-scheme).…

Cleaning graffiti on someone else's property
There's obscene language graffiti on someone's garage door just up the road from me and it has been there since October last year. I've no idea whose garage it belongs to as there's a row of them so it could be anyone's. I have reported it three times to the council and first time they said they have informed the cleansing…

DIY Kitchen alternatives? Below minimum order requirements :-(
I have finally come up with a plan for my utility room with DIY kitchens. It took me ages but making use of their narrow depth base units fitted perfectly in an awkward space. Unfortunately I am quite a bit below the minimum order of £750 and can’t justify increasing the budget for a utility room, so it looks like I’ll…

Boiler house condensing boiler-any advice as regards brands?
Hi folks, I'm in the initial stages of researching an oil filled boiler house condensing boiler to replace an old 30 year cast iron boiler (burner was replaced about 20 years ago) all working well at the moment, but as I understand it, will probably use a fifth more oil, and oil as you know is not cheap at the moment. Lots…

Seal around pipe with silicone It all works fine and there are no leaks…

Roof/Guttering - water down external wall
Cam home last night and spotted a damp patch as water was running down the outside wall below where a roof valley ends and the guttering ends. Looking closely as I can from ground level directly underneath it looked like the roof slate was a couple of cm short of the guttering and water was dripping from the slate through…

Kitchen worktop height low
I’ve just had my kitchen fitted, and with all the legs on my units, the height comes to 840mm. The worktop (due to come next week) is 30mm, making it a total of 870mm. Will this become a problem? I’m 6ft and slightly concerned that I’ll notice a big difference from a standard 900mm worktop height? Any advice appreciated.

Damp patch under radiator. Possible causes?
I noticed a patch of damp 50cm in diameter around the pipe on the left of my living room radiator this morning. What could the cause of that be? (I’d rather try and fix it myself before calling out a plumber.)

Is fitting a thermostat onto an old radiator an easy or difficult job?
Hello all, I just moved into a flat in an old 1930s block of about 30 flats and it turns out the the heating is controlled communally, which means the radiator in my is on 24/7 throughout the winter (something they conveniently forgot to tell me at the viewing and which I didn't even think to check). Anyway, I have asked…
