Is it still illegal to remove trickle vents?
I've just moved into a new build property and of course all the windows have trickle vents. I detest the things. I'm planning to fill them all with expanding foam, but frankly I'd like to get new window frames fitted without them. I've read that it's illegal to do so if the existing windows have trickle vents (bloody…

Plug in fuse won't go back in
https://www.flameport.com/electric_museum/old_equipment/memera3_4_way_plastic_fusebox_1.cs4 That is a picture of my fusebox The plasterer pulled one of these out for the shower but it won't go back in. It's not broken, maybe there's a knack to it but I don't know what it is. I don't want to use brute force. Any ideas?

Roof felt repair?
What's the best fix for this as the water is coming down the roof tile & then leaking down to the ground from behind the gutter? It's just that small section missing so is there any way to patch it up somehow? https://ibb.co/0VPNxwt https://ibb.co/nBMqhyh

Oven with integrated extraction
I have a query about oven design/installation. It’s a bit tedious to explain so please be patient. I have a built-under multi-function oven (Candy). When I use the oven grill, and depending on what I’m grilling, smoke will sometimes be produced. I have to open an external house door (not good in cold weather) to clear the…

Can't heat living room
Hi Guys, I bought a house in July with eyes wide open it had not been modernised much since it was built in 1970. The only things that have been done are double glazing and the fireplace bricked up. It has what looks like a 1980s Warmflow oil boiler system in the garage. Other than that it was turn key. So it is what I was…

Bensons for bed mattress
Hi, About a year ago I purchased a sensaform memory active 3000 mattress from bensons. Part if the appeal for me was that the memory foam topper was supposed to be breathable and not get warm. However, I have noticed lately that it's like sleeping on hot coals! After a while in bed the mattress is unbearably warm. A…

New washing machine
My hotpoint washing machine is starting to give up and an engineer suggested that due to what seems to be wrong with it, it's not worth repairing. Can anyone recommend any decent washing machines under £300 What are good ones generally? - Hotpoint, Indiset, Beko? Are cheaper sounding brands like Candy and Hisense any good?…

Replacement doors and cabinets for my kitchen
I bought a Cooke And Lewis kitchen about 3 years ago and I need a few replacement doors. When I went to get a replacement , B&Q told me they are replacing the entire range and they don't have the replacement doors and are discontinuing it. Is thus legal? As far as I understand, kitchen companies should offer replacement…

New drive pooling water
Hi everyone. I hope someone can help me out. We have had a new driveway and it looks great but after rain today it is holding or pooling water. Some spots are clearly puddles which appear as indents or flat spots. But also some areas have stayed wet. It looks like the new tarmac is repelling the water. We dont see this on…

Induction hob broken
I have inherited (House sale) an dual gas and electricity range cooker. There is also an induction hob that usually has a big heavy griddle on top. The induction hob glass is smashed so I’m wondering if it’s safe to keep as part of the cooker or I need to buy a new cooker? I also don’t have the original griddle.

Bathroom renovation cost in Essex - is this right??
We moved into a new two bed house recently and we are planning to renovate our bathroom. It’s a smallish bathroom (about 2 by 2 metres) and we aren’t changing any of the plumbing. We are sourcing all fittings and tiles ourselves (cost will be about £2-2.5k). We have had two quotes so far to rip out old bathroom (three…

Confused about plaster
My partner and I bought our first home together: a solid red brick (seems no cavity) Victorian house built in 1895 in West Yorkshire. Suffice to say we've been here 2 weeks and have had to do over £1500 worth of repair to gutters, roof, plumbing. Now we have to replace a lot of plaster on the walls and ceilings in several…

Who for non-standard kitchen?
We've bought a our first gaff and it came with the most ridiculously laid out Wren kitchen (in fairness we dont know who did the design and the units do look good for their age) and so its our first priority to replace it. The Mrs has done a design with a company which is based on a concrete type effect for the floor and…

Gas hob not sparking
We have a Siemens gas hob integrated into the worktop and fitted by the previous owners. Normally, I turn the control knob for a hob to turn on the gas, and press the knob down to ignite the gas. Last week, one of the hobs wouldn't ignite if I press the relevant knob down. The knob feels stiff and doesn't click when…

Selling out of spec appliance
Hi all We recently had a gas engineer out to connect our range cooker to the gas after a house move. We'd had it previously connected and running in our old house. He said that he was unable to connect the cooker up due to it not complying with gas regulations in that it doesn't have a gas shut off function if the flame…

Glass Box Extension
Hi all, after a bit of guidance. Wanting to stick a small glass box extension onto my kitchen, reasonably small 1-1.5m x 3m, just essentially extend the dining area, no doors just flat glass panels with minimal framing. Cant seem to get an idea on costings? Anyone with any idea on rough costing? Thanks in advance
