Friend does the job, you three pay over the odds and they get a freebie.
Happens all the time.
You have the right to get your own estimates and compare, that has been taken from you so if you can get another roofer to say what they would charge you could at least compare. Getting a roofer out to do that will be really difficult though unless you know one.
If you know what was wrong, how many men were on the job and how long it took then there are tradesmen on here who would have a rough idea.0 -
Yep get your own roofer out asap for a quote - you can try Which trusted trader0

I don't know exact details of the problem as it is not detailed in the quote they got. So unable to tell a roofer what the problem was, and there is nothing to show now.
Are they entitled to ask for the money when we did not agree and did not get notice? They basically took it upon themselves.0 -
You did get notice in a way as the neighbours told you that the work was going ahead the next day. Wouldn't that have been the time to insist that you wanted it cancelled or delayed pending further quotes?0

But as the repairs have already been completed, I doubt if another roofer would be interested in giving a quote as this will cost them time and money whilst knowing that they won't be employed to do any work.0 -
Ask to see the 'other' two quotes - surely you would expect to get three of them, then go with the 'best'.#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3660
