Hi all a newbie need advice about soundproofing side wall adjoining neighbours help single mom living with my son in a newly bought house one side wall With a fireplace is the problem seems thin disturbing us at night as neighbour has a very annoyingly shrill voice and can talk loud probably not their fault it’s just I like peace and quiet
Is thin trying to find a cost effective way to reduce the sound as my son has special
Needs and gets disturbed as We can hear them talking and light music as well
What I want to know. Is do any form of acoustic panels work as haven’t seen any reliable
Reviews any advice except earplugs would be appreciated 🙂

Even if you cover the wall with acoustic panels, there will be sound travelling across ceilings, gaps where there are sockets and the like. If you have a joint wall in a modern-sh house its seemingly rare to have zero noise coming from the other side as sound does carry so unless the entire wall is double thick and insulated, theres going to be a route for that sound to carry.
In our old 1979 built terrace we could hear plugs getting plugged in, toilets flushed, walking up /down stairs, voices etc. It was a big part in our decision to save up and move to a detached house. Semi's and terraces are cheaper, but you have to put up with these things unless you're willing to spend a fortune, and if you are its cheaper and more efficient to move.
Consider that if you have a child and are living your life normally, they can hear the same things about you.0 -
Similar problem here - I have a young family next door to me and have driven demented with the noise , banging , kids screaming, them shouting , kids jumping off furniture, dogs barking . Have to wear earplugs in bed and sometimes in the day time ! I had a stud wall installed in one bedroom and in another two layers of gyproc soundproof boarding with acoustic glue between - made no difference. I have run out of ideas and patience! To be honest it’s affecting my quality of life as I feel like I’m living thier life ! Any suggestions? Before anyone says speak to them , tried that , met with ‘oh we know we are noisy because of the kids ‘ , and arrogance from the guy who thinks he’s some sort of hard man . No consideration, entitled millennials types. My house I can do what I like . 0
