Rangemaster hood bulb problem
So I've a rangemaster hood, the 110cm one, and it has 2 LED spotlights. Recently one of them has gone dim - about half the brightness of the other. Anyone else seen this and know what might cause it? I can order a new bulb of course (assuming I can get the fiddly spring clip off!) but not sure if they might be fed by a…

AEG dishwasher slowly fills up with cloudy water after cycle finished
Hi there, can anyone help me? My AEG dishwasher (FSE53630Z) finishes the cycle and is totally empty, but maybe 10-20 mins after the cycle has finished there's about 1-2 cm of cloudy water filling up from the bottom. I assume this is old water being pushed back into the dishwasher? As the filter is totally clear? None of…

Patio cleaning
My garden is almost entirely concreted over. The concrete is quite uneven and, annoyingly, drains either towards the side of the house or to random low point in the main garden. This means an accumulation of garden 'mud' (soil, moss, leaves etc.) has just ended up on the concrete and when I try to clean it I seem to just…

Full property refurbishment- what order?
Hi all, I recently bought my first property (to live in) and I'm fortunate that I can stay elsewhere and should have enough of a budget to get everything done before I move in. This is the first time I've had to plan anything like this before and was wondering on the order that I should plan to get things done in. ETA:…

Birds in the chimney
So I have a blocked up fireplace, but I believe the chimney is still open. Sitting upstairs in rooms adjacent to the chimney I can hear scratching and fissling. Listening to it for a while I'm fairly sure it's birds. As to how or why they want to be down the chimney is up to them. To be honest it's not really bothering me.…

Super low water pressure on cold only?
Hi everyone, Our bathroom tap since we purchased the house has had almost 0 water pressure when turned to cold. The hot water pressure is extremely high and the cold water isn't affected in the shower in the same bathroom or the kitchen taps downstairs. Both the hot and cold feeds have isolation valves and have adjusted…

Power cut and now shower won’t work!
Hi All, We had a power cut a week ago and since then our shower (Aqualisa Quartz) is only trickling water out and is red hot despite whichever temperature setting it’s on. I was convinced it may be an airlock but others seem to not get hot water at all, whereas we’re the opposite. I’ve followed instructions on the Aqualisa…

Loft Ladder Breaking
So I have a loft ladder that stores in the loft. It always comes apart at the guide that pushes it in and out of the loft. The black bit on the end shoots off. Is there something I can do to join each side of the ladder to it? I was thinking something like a nut but there'd be nowhere for the bolt to go. Thanks!

Cormar Carpets Apollo Elite
Hi there, we are looking to purchase new carpets for stairs and 2 bedrooms. We will have either 9mm Tredaire Softwalk or 9mm Cloud 9 underlay fitted. However we are stuck on the carpet itself, we would like a twist carpet that hopefully doesn't flatten too noticeably. We have found the perfect colour shade in Cormar Apollo…

Open Fire - Hole in Upstairs Room?
We have an open fire downstairs. In the room above the fire, there's a ventilation grill. I took it off the wall as we're repainting the room. The hole is about the size of a large malted milk. Inside there seems to be a lot of dust, almost soil like substance. Is this just soot? Should I clear it out? What's this vent…

Extended porch advice
Dear All, We have a Victorian semi-detached house whereby our front door is on the side of the house. Our attached neighbours have a porch. We are thinking of adding one too but our dimensions would be bigger than the permitted 3 square metres. We are looking at a 4.5m x 1m internal floor space. I presume this would…

is it possible to repair a damaged table top?
Hi folks, We have a dinning room table that we have used constantly for over 20 years now, I would think its one of those tables where its probably some sort of manufactured top layer (as the drop leaf part in middle which we never use looks a lot newer than the rest of table that we use) Anyways though we use place mats…

no water for 8h and counting
Not sure if this is the correct place to post this. Hopefully someone can move it if that's not the case. Long story short, we have not had any water since this morning.. 8h and counting. Someone "smart" on the development turned the water off because there was a leak in one of the buildings in the water room. Now when…
