Selling out of spec appliance

Hi all
We recently had a gas engineer out to connect our range cooker to the gas after a house move. We'd had it previously connected and running in our old house.
He said that he was unable to connect the cooker up due to it not complying with gas regulations in that it doesn't have a gas shut off function if the flame were to go out or was not present. Is this a new regulation thing?
We have young children so don't oppose this fundamentally from a safety perspective.
We have opted to buy a new range but am unclear as to what I can do with the old one?
I have seen plenty of others for sale on various sites but now I know about this safety feature, there is an obvious ethical point here too. None of the others for sale point out this 'out of spec' status.
If they will not pass a gas safety check how is it they can still be sold? From an ethical point I'm wary about selling anything dangerous but they also sell for a couple of hundred at least so would be a good addition to the expense of a new one.
The cooker in question is a rangemaster Toledo 90 duel fuel.
Thanks

Regs change constantly and I suspect you have fallen foul of one of those changes. As for selling it, you could try contacting one of the other sellers as a prospective purchaser and ask if it conforms with current regs. See what they say.
Private sales don't always come under the same controls as commercial sales, although I would imagine any purchaser would be pretty miffed if they made a purchase and then couldn't use it.
I also don't doubt that there are gas installers out there who wouldn't be as safety concious as long as they were being paid. I am not suggesting anybody should go that route.
Many gas cookers have a bayonet type connector so could actually be connected without calling in a gas engineer. Maybe that's how other sellers have got away with it.0 -
I would check for yourself if you have the manual or ring Rangemaster,
This one for sale says FSD = Yes

Thanks for replies.
I think I'm going to sell it as spares or repairs. Been told by several engineers it's not economic to repair based on age and labour but someone may want a project0 -

The current model version may well have the same name but will be required to conform with current regs. Doesn't mean all older models will have it.0
