Filing cabinet - need to give it a modern look
Have an ex office 4 draw filing cabinet which is shoulder height. It is roughly over 25 years old. The cabinet is brown and the draw front is cream, typical colours in those days. My daughter wants one but hates the colour of this cabinet. Don't fancy sanding the surface and spray the cabinet. Was wondering if there was…

Permitted Development vs Planning permission
Hello, We are looking at options for extending out mid-terraced house. Ideally we would like to extend going back on the ground and first floor. One builder has suggested that we should do the ground floor first and then ask for permission for the 1st floor. As that would be easier to get through. Does that seem…

Moss on roof
When I had my survey before purchasing my house the survey recommended removing the moss from the roof. As yet I have not done this but with Autumn nearly upon us I was thinking it might be something I should think of. Obviously I'm going to get a variety of quotes but was hoping someone could give me a rough idea on what…

Flickering bulb
We have two outdoor lanterns either side of the garage. Both look the same though there are subtle differences between the two. The left side's bulb has been flickering for a few months. It appears to vary in intensity rather than completely on/off flickering but quite rapid nontheless. The right hand unit has been fine.…

Selecting a Cleaner (First World Problems)
I'm in the market for a cleaner and I've narrowed it down to a choice of two. Out of all the cleaners and companies I contacted they were the only two who wanted to see the place and discuss what I was looking for before giving me a quote. There's not much difference in price, both use their own cleaning products and…

As you will see from the link, the tap is a double lever action swan neck. It uses ceramic valves, and I cannot work out how to get to the valves to clean or…

"Right In Common" - My Rights?
Hi, wondering if anyone could help with an explaination on this term. I have a "right in common" to an area outside my home that is shared equally with a neighbour. This area is used to park cars in, basically a shared driveway in my opinion, but the layout of a wall gives the impression that it is a communal parking bay.…

adjusting width of a roller blind
I've seen a "daylight" blind in John Lewis online but even the narrowest would be too wide for my window (the inside bit, it would fit across without adjustment if I just overlapped the frame but I know that wouldn't look nice). My question is, what is the roller bit likely to be made from (metal? plastic?) and would I (a…

Any idea what these wires are before I get an electrician in?!
Hi, Our house was left in an interesting state by the previous owner. One of the many issues are wires that come through the wall in almost every room.
