Filing cabinet - need to give it a modern look

Have an ex office 4 draw filing cabinet which is shoulder height. It is roughly over 25 years old. The cabinet is brown and the draw front is cream, typical colours in those days.

My daughter wants one but hates the colour of this cabinet. Don't fancy sanding the surface and spray the cabinet. Was wondering if there was like a self adhesive vinyl etc which I can cover the cabinet? If there is one that size where can I get one?

is there a better alternative?

I did spray one a while back, it didn't take long to spray as I only sanded the existing paint enough to prove a key for new paint, it wasn't much more than a quick wipe with rough sandpaper.

The effect was really good, well worth doing. I used a couple of large cans of spray paint from B&Q.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.
  • There are plenty of ideas and instructions on Pinterest. My favourites are using blackboard paint, and covering with maps.

    Stick wallpaper to it?
Stick hundreds of stickers to it?
Draw intricate patterns with a sharpie?

Tell your daughter to decorate it herself.

I'd go with this. Tell her she can decoupage it over the next 1-2 years as things in magazines etc catch her eye.

Total cost £2 for a bottle of glue and a small paintbrush :)
