Help - WC water inlet leaking

Hello,

I replaced syphon and water inlet fill valve. Issue is that water is weeping out on the outside of the toilet where the nut tightens the inlet pipe to the cistern. The old one had some sort of putty between the rubber washer and cistern on the inside, not sure what to do, I have some PTFE tape on the thread, might take this off tomorrow as have read it could cause issues.

should be rubber between the inlet and the cistern, slightly cone shape rubber washers are the best. I never fit them dry - as in a tiny rub of petroleum jelly (Vaseline) on the washers always helps. Use a silicon waste fittings lube if you have one. PTFE on the thread if its not a rubber seal - it usually is on inlet pipes. Dont over tighten against rubber, if you have damaged the rubber washer change it.

There was a flat rubber washer supplied with the product. I took it apart again and found that the area where the washer sits on the inside of the cistern has some small indents that are probably stopping the washer making a good connecting with the cistern, will try and get pics posted.
