New kitchen now or in the New Year Sale?

Hi,

I’mplanning on getting a new kitchen.

Withoutkicking off a huge debate would you/should I get one now or wait for a BoxingDay Sale?

I’venever really paid attention to the details of these kind of Sales – surely placeslike B&Q/Wren don’t include everything (i.e. all models and all equipment)in their sales do they?

A colleagues of mine mentioned he got good bargain last year.
He purchased the units and install himself...

Or just go somewhere that doesn't have "sales" but offers a better product at a decent price all year round...

Benchmarx and Howdens have their big sales in October.

DIY kitchens don't do sales do they?

Ikea don't do sales. Sometimes there's an appliance offer but I haven't seen one for a while.

We bought from DIY kitchens when they had a '10% off units' offer.
  • Depends on where you're looking & for what - if you want to see the new year in with a kitchen largely in boxes, then yes, the New Year sales are your friend.

If you want to save a stack on money, combine New Year with store card new membership but (a) be ready to pay it all off rather than get hit with the Store Card APR & (b) see above about New year & kitchen in boxes.

Or check out a few stores, see something you like & ask the sales staff if these will be discounted in the new year sales or if they can do you a deal now. These folk have targets, so if you can hold tight to your budget & seem genuinely ready to walk away, you could get a showhome glossy kitchen for a great deal less than the RRP.

    All the best!

Go to a good supplier that offers real pricing all year round. Raw materials dont get cheaper at christmas nor do products. Its all sales gimmicks.

TBH if you try and get it fitted before Christmas you may well be disappointed. All decent fitters are now booked up until the end of the year.

Also remember that the actual kitchen price when taken as a proportion of the whole cost, is actual not that great. On our typical fit. the cost of the kitchen is typically a quarter to a third of the price. The ret is made up of labour, electrical work, plumbing, gas work, tiling etc. So you may save a few quid in the sale but it wont have much effect on the total price.

We bought our kitchen from B&Q who don't really have sales any
more on kitchens or bathrooms, we also paid for them to fit it and as someone mentioned previously about fitting...the fitting cost - cabinets, plumbing, tiling, and electrics was equal to the cost of the units. We had some snags which were fixed within days of being raised. That's our second B&Q kitchen. :)
