New Vacuum Cleaner.
I think I've just kliied of our latest Dyson as the brush bar has just snapped. It's been loosing suction for a while and the hose is crap. The DC01 was brilliant but the two subsequent models haven't lasted so well. What is a good replacement? The only stipulation is it must be an upright.

Quote for bathroom
Hey guys, I'm getting my bathroom done and had a couple of quotes so far. It's not a massive bathroom, overall we are getting about 15m2 tiled in total and having a new bath, sink, toilet and towel rail fitted. I'm in the north of England. What would you say a fair price would be? Thanks.

Tredaire Dreamwalk 'vs' Cloud 9 Cumulus - longevity?
I'm looking for someone who has had either of these for a reasonable period of time. If you've had it in for a week, or a month or some other short timeframe then this question isn't really for you. I'd be saying 12 months minimum but even that's pretty short so the longer the better. After doing much googling these are…

Small piece of ceiling just fell on me in the shower...
Is this something I can fix myself? Having horrible visions of needing a whole new ceiling! It was only about 50p sized and the hole is about 4mm deep at the deepest point... It looks like it might crumble more though, and there is another patch elsewhere in the bathroom that looks a bit unhappy... No problems with mould…

Loft coversion asked to be paid by bacs
I've just had a loft conversion done and they are asking to be paid by bacs I just want to confirm wether my opinion is correct that this is extremely bad idea as I will have no protection. Specially since it is a loft conversion things such as roof cave in etc. Is it unreasonable for me to ask to pay by credit card? What…

Buying OS maps for planning for a fixed address?
Hi, I've had to apply for planning permission to erect a fence 75cm above the lawful allowed height due to the neighbouring property being 75cm higher than my own. A standard height fence of 200cm would not require planning. It's a straightforward proposal and I must admit being a bit (very) frustrated by having to pay the…

Front doors that can't open from the inside
Hello, can anyone who knows about door locks explain this to me? An elderly neighbour has a front door that has a Yale type lock plus a regular mortice lock. The Yale lock has no keyhole on the inside. On the inside is an oridinary little rocker thing that fixes the bolt in position, either out or in if you turn the handle…

Electrical regulations
I'm thinking of getting someone in to install extra sockets. Would this involve getting some sort of certificate that changes have been made? What sort of qualifications would I be asking for? PS and how much would you reckon it would cost to get 4 or possible 5 double sockets doubled again? At London prices.

New bird table and audience of cats !
Just bought a bird table, lovely, lots of different birds visiting everyday, it's been most educational. Now, I wake up to three cats on the lawn, curled up in a line watching the bird table, now, there are no birds visiting. Apparently, this gang of feline invaders are new to the neighbourhood and have decided to line up…

Removing paints from stairs
I am ready to start work on the steps on the stairs. They have been painted in the past with white paint and brown varnish from the last owners. I want to remove the paint (gloss) and varnish but never tried before and wondered if sanding them or using a heat gun is the best way to start? Money is tight and that's the…

Composite entrance front-door
Hello, I’m after an exterior door replacement (composite most likely) with a bar / knob (no lever) on the outside and a lever on the inside. I've got pictures but as a new user I can't post them. The door could only be opened from the outside with a key and with the lever from the inside (when no locked by key). All the…

I had some work done on my roof 2 years ago to repair holes made by birds nesting. I got a tradesman from Rated People to come and fix it. The birds came and nested again only a couple of months later. So i tried to contact the trademan to see if he would complete the job he hadnt done properly. He wanted more money so i…

Vanish - Does it Really Work?
Vanish is fairly expensive compared with some own brands. Does it really work? Do you use an own brand or something else that works? I used Asda's own version at one point in the past but didn't particularly see it get my whites whiter or anything. I'm not really into home remedies like baking soda and lemon juice or…
