i moved into my house 2 years ago and couldnt afford to replace carpet. I dont know how old it is but its really good quality- but cream and longish pile.
generally its ok but around door and sofa there are greyish dirt marks. I have an upright vax cleaner that i sometimes use. It makes it look nice but does nothing for these marks.
would a proper professional clean be more effective and whats a guide price- not huge room by any means

clean it with a good carpet cleaner yourself!"if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170

A while ago I rented a place with a cheap cream carpet. It started out grubby and got grubbier and by the time I left was really dirty in high traffic areas. I hired a Rug Doctor, and it cleaned up really well.
If the carpet is wool that kind of treatment might shrink it so be careful. I've recently cleaned a large wool rug with a soft scrubbing brush and a mixture of warm water vinegar and liquid soap. That worked well too - but probably not what you'd want to do for a large carpet.0 -
Look for someone in your area with a 'truck mounted' cleaner. They do an amazing job. Have a look at this American video:

A lot of 'professional' cleaners actually use Rug Doctors (a local vacuum cleaner repair shop owner told me).
We were so impressed by our hired one that we bought one (the blue version). However, when we hired we used the store's own brand detergent, but have since found the Rug Doctor brand better. We use a generic defoamer.0 -

If you are hiring, look for the special weekend deals where two days cost little more than one day midweek.mrs_baggins wrote: »thanks folks! think i may try out the rug doctor and see how it goes. will get back here and let you know0
