range cooker in new kitchen

Really fed up with all those problems cropping up with my new kitchen. Builders installed the new cooker ( http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1077520.htm ) but didnt tile under cooker and sealed it off with a plank of wood in front of legs saying its legs are plastic and looks ugly. So I complain that I wont be able to pull it out and clean the sides. He says now it will be higher than worktop if you tile underneat, so says he will concreate underneat for me to be able to pull out as there is step between tiled floor and where cooker is standing. So it wasnt higher than work top. I dont understand what he means. So I said show me what you mean before you do it. Arent you supposed to tile under cooker as well when you tile the kitchen?

Depending on the cooker type, it might have adjustable height legs, so tiling or not makes no difference. The piece of wood to hide the plastic legs - sometimes called a kicking board - can normally be held on to the legs with clips so you can pull it of for cleaning underneath.

He says I can pull the piece of wood but he sealed it off with a silicone. So do I have to silicone it back every time I pull the cooker out. I shall take a picture and show what I mean.

I would check with the builder about the legs. Most cookers will have some adjustment to allow for different floors.

I would 100% if possible tile underneath. Our last house ( just moved ) we had a new kitchen with a big range cooker and even though I am a bit of a clean freak every now and again you need to pull it out and clean. You would be amazed what gets underneath. From a cleaning perspective it was just easier to have it all tiled. To be honest I never noticed any big gap underneath??? So not really sure what your kitchen fitter is talking about.

Please remember that it is your kitchen so you should have it the way you want it. A kitchen is not something that you can change overnight. Its not as simple as a quick change of colour or new wallpaper, and it normally costs a huge amount.

Yes please ? I can not see why the legs have to be so extended so much as to cause such a massive gap?

Did your kitchen fitter trim any of the plinth before he fitted it to the main kitchen?
