Lock bolt won't retract on internal door
Any help/suggestions appreciated. Grand-daughter has turned lock in bedroom door (while door open - thank goodness for that!). But the key will only turn about halfway now so lock bolt isn't retracting, and door can't be closed. Is this fixable? Or does this mean new set of handles?

Fridge freezer problem?
Our FF of late has been making a noise which sounds like coolant circulating. The sound you get when you've flushed a toilet and the cistern is filling up It's working fine but this noise is fairly loud and I'm fairly certain it only started to make this noise in the last couple of weeks Is this normal?

Bed base from Gumtree
Hi everyone. Was wondering if anyone could please help? I bought a kingsize solid oak bed from Gumtree for what I thought was the bargain price of £200. However, after two nights sleeping in it, I noticed it had sunk and when I looked under the bed was really annoyed to discover that the middle metal support had cracked…

Hi All, We recently moved and our new abode is in need of a new kitchen and bathroom. We are going to do the kitchen first, as despite the extremely dated and fussy looking bathroom, we feel the kitchen is of more importance. Having looked in to quite a few companies, we are looking at Symphony and Howdens. Cost is…

Can I buy the freehold of a house before 2 years?
I recently bought house (this year), leasehold and when the freeholder contacted me for this year's ground rent I've also been offered the freehold for £620 including land registry fees (no mention of solicitor fees). Cold bedroom - over integral garage!
I moved house a couple of years ago and one of our bedrooms is above the integral garage. It gets extremely cold! Not helped by the fact that it's set into the roofspace so much of the wall is tile-hung externally. The house is a 1970s property and the cavity walls are insulated. Unfortunately the bedroom in question has 3…

New windows & doors - aluminium vs upvc vs timber?
I'm currently about to start a new build house project (first time after a few renovations), and am really struggling with budgets. One big cost is the windows and bi-fold doors - the Architects really want me to get snazzy aluminium ones by a company called Velfac - they look great, but it's looking like around £20k (zero…

Solid wood floor underlay
Hi, I'm looking for a really high tog, solid wood floor underlay. This would go under plywood (with a moisture barrier if it doesn't come with one), under the solid wood floor. Carpet right have one which claims to have a tog rating of 1.6, it is 2mm silvered rubber. The best rating I can find anywhere else is 1.1. If I am…

Asbestos sheet removal
Hi, We've noticed there is a piece of asbestos in the garden which had gone unoticed until some tidying up was done. It's only about a metre by a metre or a bit more but it's near to the neighbours who have kids so we should get it removed. I've looked on the council website and whilst they give a link to people who can…
