Lock bolt won't retract on internal door

Any help/suggestions appreciated. Grand-daughter has turned lock in bedroom door (while door open - thank goodness for that!). But the key will only turn about halfway now so lock bolt isn't retracting, and door can't be closed. Is this fixable? Or does this mean new set of handles?

It's pretty quick and simple to take the handles and lock off, i think i'd take it off and try and see what's stopping it.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
