Stair renovation
We are looking at renovating our staircase and require a bit of advice from anyone who may have done the same. We are wanting to fit Spindles and a Hand Rail, but without having to renew the whole staircase as well. Anyone out there with any advice/guidance/pointers to give, from their own DIY staircase project?

discount for paying cash
About to buy some flooring and have been quoted a 20% discount for paying in cash. Obviously this sounds dodgy and is quite surprising as its not a small firm. Should I ask no questions and get the discount - could do with saving the money to be honest - or should I be wary? The firm has a good reputation locally.

Small cracks in plastered wall- Clay Soil - Sag/Swell/Settlement
Hi. We've recently moved into a 1960's house that's at the top of a smallish hill with a row of large oaks (over 10m tall) next door, and it's a clay soil. The environmental survey didn't pick up any risk of earth movement. When we bought the house, the mortgage surveyor picked up on a structural problem in the form of…

Style and design of composite front door
I like the idea of replacing our old, upvc double-glazed front door with a composite one, but I'm put off by what I feel is limited style options. For example, I don't like the wood grain effect, I want the exact colour of my choosing, and I don't like the lever handle look either. Would choosing a composite door mean I…
