discount for paying cash

About to buy some flooring and have been quoted a 20% discount for paying in cash.

Obviously this sounds dodgy and is quite surprising as its not a small firm. Should I ask no questions and get the discount - could do with saving the money to be honest - or should I be wary? The firm has a good reputation locally.

As long as you get what you want and its not nicked i would go for it. Its not your concern how the company is dealing with its tax and VAT!!!

Might they have cash flow problems?

Is it cash on delivery, ie they don't want the money upfront?

I had some repairs done to my roof, as soon as i pulled my cheque book out the guy said, ..... if you're giving me one of those it will be plus Vat.
So we went to the cash point.

if they are prepared to do a tax receipt it's not naïve and if the vat man has been shafted it's nothing to do with you as they issued a false VAT receipt, 20% off is slightly more than VAT on, although approximately it's around the same level as long as the numbers are not too big- but as stated, if the fella is prepared to divide his quoted cash price by 1.2 and give that out as a VAT receipt, if it's a fiddle, it's his fiddle, not your problem, take the discount !

Cheers! Took the discount and got a VAT receipt so not quite sure what kind of fiddle is going on, but certainly nothing for me to be concerned with.
