Wood Garden Furniture- Rubbing down/Stripping

Our wood (hardwood) garden bench and table needs rubbing right down as it flaking quite badly. What is the best way to do this. s it be Using a electric sander and if so what type. the we need will need to use some Ronseal Outdoor Oak Varnish. I am no DIY expert Is this the correct way to restore this wooden garden furniture. any advise will be greatly appreciated.

If the surface is mostly flat then a belt sander will do the job.
If it is not then orbital sander or detail sander.
I used the Black & Decker Mouse for a chair and it took a while but did a good job.Start Feb 2013 £148,900

What power electric sander is suitable for the job .Can anyone recommend one that will not cost a small fortune. Maybe it would be cheaper to purchase another garden bench allowing for the time and effort involved in stripping it down.0
