advice please
I've had a garage conversion and the roof is leaking badly. The roof wasnt part of the work but if a builder is converting a garage shouldnt this be part of the work to survey the roof first? Will the roof installation be ruined or will it dry out once the leaks are resolved. Also the electric lights are ok now but will…

buying timber cut to size
I'd like to build some planters/raised beds for the garden but don't have a suitable saw to cut the wood to size. If it's possible I'd like to go into a builders' merchants or DIY shop with a list of cuts, buy the timber and have them cut it for me. Do places do this? If so, is it expensive?

We are hoping to get one tomorrow from Argos as soon as possible as we are holding a house warming party next week so want everything looking good. I read some…

Spray Painting Appliances
Is it possible to spray a fridge freezer without it looking like a home made job? My mother has a white fridge freezer which works fine however would look much better in a darker colour and I (stupidly) said it may be possible to change the colour so now she thinks I will be able to make it happen! If it isn't possible to…

Damp In The Bedroom
I live in a terraced house and in both bedrooms I have started getting a spot of damp in the corners only on the window walls. My loft is well insulated and bordered. Except for near where the windows are due to not being able to reach that far due to 2 large wooden beams that come almost to the floor. It is an old slate…

Decorating Advice
We've recently bought a 15 year old house, and have discovered that other that the original cream emulsion put on by the builder, the walls haven't been touched. They are all in matt emulsion and are dusty and powdery if rubbed. We have tried to make a start, but the walls are just sucking up the paint. In the hall the…

Items that I need to buy in 2014
Hoping this thread is a good incentive for us all to save money, keep things clean/de hoarded and something to look forward to. I couldn't add all this to my signature, and all the notes I leave around the house usually get binned or lost. So a great way to keep a track of things I aim to buy in 2014 is to create a thread,…

Combi boiler leak
I have a 6 year old Baxi combi boiler which constantly needs the pressure topping up. After topping up to about 1.0 bar, it then leaks slowly, dripping from somewhere at the back of the boiler, taking about 24hrs for the pressure to drop to zero again. I've collected the leaking water, which is clear and amounts to a…

Flat roof leak, source?
The usual flat roof is leaking when raining, damp patch, bathroom ceiling. Now I have been up, what I thought was the source used Emergency Roof Seal, no luck and nothing obvious I can see. So dry day, half is a puddle of water, so I sweeped that off, checked bathroom - nothing, ok not that half then. I bought another Roof…

500w hammer drill OK for ocassional masonary work?
Just curious as I've spotted one locally quite cheap. I'm a basic DIY'er so no need to splash out loads for ocassional use only but I noticed its rated at 500w but it is corded so that may help? Also I may need it for basic masonary work-is this enough power for my needs? Thanks as usual

Single oven & electricity regs
At some point in the not too distant future I will have to replace my single oven, which is built under the gas hob. It's probably around 10-12 years old. It plugs into a 13A socket and there isn't an isolator switch nearby. Can anyone advise whether the current electrical regs require an isolator switch to be fitted if I…

Kitchen cabinet surface touch up
Feeling a bit cross that my otherwise perfect kitchen cabinets have been badly scuffed by a careless delivery man recently. Any idea how to cover it up effectively? I've looked at the net but many of the filler pens seem not to give a realistic finish. I don't want to make it look worse, but would like some advice before I…

Replacing flat roof and installing insulation
Hi We need to, sooner rather than later, have our flat roof replaced as the felt on there is fading fast and has water under it (between the felt layers). We've had a quote of £8600 for this to be done and a sizeable chunk of that figure (around £2500) was taken up by installing a layer of insulation (there's none there at…

Water damage around windows
Hi. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem - perhaps someone can point me in the right direction. Recently we've noticed water damage on the walls around most of the windows on the back of our house. Looking more closely, the internal window frame seems to have lifted away from the wall slightly - sort of like a…

Anglian windows - quality of product and fitting
I wonder if anyone has any experience of the quality of Anglian's windows and fitting. We're looking to replace some windows and are considering Anglian. Convector heater.
Looking to buy a convector heater for my living room. Just need it to use whilst I'm waiting for the central heating to kick in, or when I'm in the living room & dont want/need the central heating on. I'm not looking for something expensive or even economical, just want it pretty basic one.
