Prextex male elbow angst
I'm fitting a pretty awkward bath tap valve with diverter into a small wall, using male prestex elbows for the h&c supplies in, and the shower hose out. I need the Prestex elbows to be screwed into the valve tight (with PTFE), but ideally to 'stop' tight to the shoulder at the right angle. Naturally they won't be…

AEG Washer/Dryer problems - repair or replace?
I've got an AEG washer dryer (model L16850), just over 3 years old, cost us around £500. However it's developed some problems. Right racket when spinning fast, and drum feels rough when spun by hand. I suspect bearing are gone. Also, the dryer function no longer gets hot. Just goes through motions, but no heat, clothes…

Buy washing machine now or wait?

The thing is I don't move in until the 14th December and I'm weighing up whether to buy a washing machine now or wait until January sales. I'm looking at buying an LG F1480QDS (as it appears to be the little version of the Which…

New hearth - chipped
We recently installed a new hearth, surround, mantel and fire. The hearth is micro marble. My husband accidentally dropped something on the edge of the hearth chipping it. Its on the edge and on the front. Its not that visible from the front. The chip is not simply a matter of putting the chip back on. It is no good, the…

Plastering on a chimney breast
I opened up an old fireplace in the bedroom, as it hadn't been closed up very well. I have bricked the opening up (with a small opening for an airvent). I also removed the old gaslight fitting from higher up the wall. In the end I decided to knock the whole breast off and replaster. I've replastered with two coats of…

I live with my partner in a part private / part council block. Around a month ago the social welfare residents all had their front entrance doors changed by the council. We are private tenants, we own the flat, and have today received a letter from London Borough of Redbridge Housing Services stating that we must, in order…

Saniflo bathroom
Hi all I've found a house I like and had got close to agreeing a price on this place when I found out that the main bathroom uses a saniflo system. Insulating
In my kitchen there's always been a draught. Due to the high winds today, I found that a hole about 10cms across in my terraced house kitchen where the pipes go up into the roof is letting a major draught in. What insulation would I need to stop the draught getting in? I only rent the house so I can't do much other than…

Cavity Wall Insulation Cold Wall
We had our 1940 3bed Semi insulated a few years ago. They did all walls apart from the front one. They said they could not do this as it was stone-faced on the ground floor with pebbledash to the first floor and any gaps could cause problems. They also fitted a huge vent through the wall as we had a gas fire in the front…
