Recommendation for a wet/dry carpet cleaning Hoover

I have animals and children in my house and the carpets seem to get dirty quickly
Therefore I am after some sort of wet dry carpet cleaner that I can put detergent down with and suck up afterwards with the same machine
Has anyone any recommendations, or ones to avoid please. It will not be used as a general hoover
Thanks in advance

I love my Vax, it does a great job, it is constantly being borrowed by friends and neighbours, only problem is it is a bit heavy so difficult to lift upstairs.0

Are you after a carpet washer or a wet and dry vac? If its a carpet washer there's quite a good thread on the forum and there seem to be 2 camps, the Bissell and the Vax. I myself and firmly on the Bissell side as they build quality appears better to me. My Bissell has lasted 4 years and still going. I've had Vax hoovers and I wasn't that impressed. Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0

I'm another massive fan of Bissells, I bought the Bissell Quickwash from them as a reconditioned model years ago, I have 3 dogs and its still going strong, does a great job, doesnt leave any residue and wouldnt use anything else now (although I'm thinking of upgrading to a bissell model with an attachment as the quickwash hasnt). Wouldnt touch the rug doctors if they were free.A home is not a home ..... without a dog
