Alternatives to Island Cooker Hood

Hi guys,
Just about to start work on my new kitchen/lounge layout and have a quick question. Iv bought a new eletric hob and intergrated oven for my new island in the kitchen, at first i wasnt going to get an extractor hood but after some reading up it seems its a vital addition.
Iv been looking at island hoods and to be honest they are much more expensive than the wall mounted hoods, and out of my kitchen budget. I have seen one for £200 but its £200 i havnt got.
So my question..are there alternative extractors i can use? Or im a going to have to stump up the cash for a proper island hood?
Any help or links would be great.
