ceramic floor tiles won't cut
Hi, I have some 9mm thick ceramic floor tiles. I bought a tile cutter from b&q and it won't cut my tiles properly The weird thing is that on the first night I managed to do 3 cuts ok. But now it won't cut/break properly... I score the tiles, then put the snapper into place and pull down and sometimes it won't do anything,…

Best budget emulsion
What's the view on a decent cheap white or magnolia for general use? I only ask as I have always used wickes, both trade and premium grades. I have nothing bad to say about it, the stuff has been brilliant. It has however gotten expensive recently compared to others. So today, in need of a tub of magnolia matt emulsion I…

Letterbox security guard?
I am looking for something which blocks things getting shoved through letterboxes overnight. Luckily it has not happened to me but my neighbour has had problems and I am sure you can get something which can be locked into place behind the letterbox and then removed during the day. Any ideas?

Noisy pipes when flushing the loo
Hi I've searched the threads but can't find exactly the same problem only noisy pipes flushing and when using the taps. When flushing the loos there is a noise while the cistern re fills. The noise sounds like its coming from the pipes within the walls not the cistern itself. It's so loud you need to turn the telly up…

PVC Door
I wonder if anyone can help? We have a PVC door (rented property) and originally had a half barrell lock. As our little boy got older, we realised that he could turn the wheel and open the door. The landlord changed it so that we need to use the keys to lock it from the inside. Problem is, my husband (twice now!) has…

I've got a Hotpoint Aquarius washing machine which is about 3 years old. Tonight I put a wash on and it worked until the final spin when it suddenly made a big whoomping sound and threw itself about 6 inches sideways. It continued to spin madly for another few seconds and suddenly stopped. I've tried to do another wash but…

What is that thingy called in a shower?
Hi, can anybody help me here because I have the world (Internet) at my fingertips and no matter what words I type into google I just cannot find out what I need to order. It is in the bottom of a shower screen, in the gap, a furry like stick on strip that I guess is a bit of a water sealant. They look a bit icky with age…

Dimmer Switch and Low Energy Bulb Question
I've just moved into a house that has a dimmer switch fitted in the lounge. I have no need of it and plan to change it back to a normal light switch. In the meantime though I was wondering if I could use a normal (ie. non-dimmable) low energy bulb. Is it dangerous...can the bulb blow-up or something? Thanks for any replies.

Rotten Floor - do I need a handyman, carpenter or builder?
Hello helpful people, I have discovered some rotten floorboards in my bathroom which I need to get fixed asap, expecially as I am not on the ground floor. I have taken off the bath panel and can't see any water or a leak under the bath, so I think the problem has been caused by water on the floor getting through a split in…

I have two weather stations in the flat and they both report humidity well above 60% all the time. In the bedroom this morning it was showing 86%.
