Noisy pipes when flushing the loo

Hi
I've searched the threads but can't find exactly the same problem only noisy pipes flushing and when using the taps.
When flushing the loos there is a noise while the cistern re fills. The noise sounds like its coming from the pipes within the walls not the cistern itself. It's so loud you need to turn the telly up until it finishes which is about 30 - 60 seconds.
The sound seems loudest in the lounge although you can hear it around the house (might be that my chair is nearest the wall where the pipes are?)
Can anyone shed any light on this?

Its most likely the inlet valve vibrating. Does it sound a bit like a foghorn?
Check the diaphragm in the valve - probably needs changing.

We too have a noisy toilet, just as you've described Keystone.
We youtubed it and replacing the diaphragm looks fairly straightforward.
Is this the correct part?

Yes I remember you posting in the other thread a few days ago. Can't answer your question though as your link has no picture but I guess its probably the right sort of thing. Some of them have a small white "peg" about halfway across the diameter. For some valves you leave it in place. For others you either nip it off or buy one without. Depends on your valve I'm afraid.

Hi
You most likely need one of these.
Until you take it apart, or can tell by looking at it, you won't know for sure.
The link in the bankers post is for a flush valve (as in Roca dual flush diaphragm washer)

could be a bit of crud stuck on the valve seat, had that recently. really noisy pipes and a constant trickle into the bowl. easy fix though0

Hi keystone & all
No it doesn't sound like a foghorn at all. The noise is not in the cistern but in the walls of the house if that makes sense? It's like the cistern has microphone and transfers the noise around the house downstairs.
It was a similar sound when the outside tap was turned on but that only lasted a few seconds until it was turned off.
Any more suggestions?
Thanks for all your help so far xxThe Cabbage

when we had it happenin, you could hear all the pipes vibrating. it would happen whenever someone opened a tap elsewhere or if washing machine was on0

Hi.
Maybe a loose washer on the incoming main stopcock.

thanks for all your replies - will let OH know and see if he can check these things.
The washing machine is on now and there is no noise. Its definitely a flush only thing so at least that's narrowed it down. The Cabbage

like most others have said, replace the washer in the ballvave/inlet valve/flow valve or whatever the trendy name for it is todayI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0
