Had exactly this, the banging noise in the pipes was caused by dripping tap in another room but could be the bathroom. We had to replace a ceramic insert in the KITCHEN tap.
Flush the loo and see if another tap drips when you do or just after you do.

Once the noise starts, is it a constant noise or a bang bang bang noise?

    Hi

Its not a banging noise. Hard to describe what it is but a constant noise until the cistern refills. We have more than one loo and it happens whichever loo is flushed and stops when the cistern is full.

Will let OH know about the valve thingies in case it helps.

Thanks once again for all your replies.
