Washing Machine thrown a wobbler!

I've got a Hotpoint Aquarius washing machine which is about 3 years old. Tonight I put a wash on and it worked until the final spin when it suddenly made a big whoomping sound and threw itself about 6 inches sideways. It continued to spin madly for another few seconds and suddenly stopped. I've tried to do another wash but the drum just clicks and moves slightly when it should be agitating the washing. I thought the belt might have snapped but I've checked that and it's OK. Has anyone got a clue what it might be?
Thanks in advance.

Possibly a blockage on the drain pipe . This happened to mine and it was a sock stuck in that pipe.Forgotten but not gone.0
