Flat pack kitchen vs built units
Im having my kitchen fitted later this month and I just wanted some opinions on flat pack or ready built units. My fitter has told me he is happy for me to supply him with a flat packed kitchen whereas another fitter told me he much prefers ready built. My suspicion is he preferred ready built to save him some time!! Can…

Exploding Halogen bulb
The other day, the approx 10cm long halogen bulb in my free-standing uplighter exploded, showering me & my son in very hot pieces of glass. The bits that caused the most damage, however, were not from the bulb, but from the glass cover which fitted over the bulb & is of much thicker glass. Some of these pieces burnt a hole…

Extension - Planning permission etc.
Thinking of having a small extension to the rear of our house. The whole rear of the house is a lounge/dining room. Lounge to the left and dining room to the right This is the proposed extension (made in Paint obviously). 3mx3m The idea would be to remove the window in the dining room, then open out underneath the window…

Peeling vinyl off kitchen doors
I have a couple of doors in my kitchen especially the one above the oven which is peeling due to the heat. Wondering what I can do as a cheap alternative to getting a new kitchen. I quite like the idea of having a brown kitchen and can see the wood under the vinyl. Would it be a 'simple' task of taking off the vinyl from…

Sealy Katerina 2200 mattress
Has anyone bought this mattress ? I got mine mid Sept.2011 At first it was great to lay on, but it started sagging right after one night. I rotated the mattress 3 times in 3 months. After three months the sagging is un-ignorable. I've decided that I will complaint (I should have complaint earlier). But I also like to hear…

Leolan vinyl flooring
Looking for affordable flooring options for our downstairs hallway/kitchen/dining room. Would love to know if anyone has used leolan flooring. Ideally I would put down something like Amtico but we have a tiny budget. This seems like the cheaper end of vinyl flooring but cant find any reviews on the product. Any opinions…

Anyone found a decent 25W equivalent E14/SES Golfball Lightbulb?
As per the thread title. We use 25W Opal golfball lightbulbs in nearly all our fittings and as these are being phased out no one seems to have bothered to make a decent low energy alternative. In fact, I haven't seen a 25W Opal bulb around on supermarket shelves for over a year now as they are all clear.

Another Kitchen Post...
Hi guys, Happy new year. I'm afraid this is another kitchen thread. Basically, I've been looking at kitchen places & online reviews/threads for months now & am more confused than ever where to get a kitchen from! I am after 16 units (ie 1x drawer pack, wall & base units & housing for a fridge freezer). I have decided on…

conservatory roof - plastic sheets sealing up
Hi, please see two links below to a conservatory roof which has just been placed on the side walls as just a lid with no sealing/insulation so the contact between the roof sheets and side walls is not air tight as a result of which the conservatory is always freezing. http://img803.imageshack.us/img803/9915/img1814m.jpg…

30 minute wash?
I've always used a long wash in my laundry machine, about 2 hours or more, but the other day I wondered whether I could use just the 30 minute wash cycle. There are no kids in the house, jusr four adults whose laundry consists of underwear worn once and outer clothes worn two or three times, bedding etc all only lightly…

Karcher pressure washer
Just bought a Karcher pressure washer with in-built detergent tank. However the manufacturers own brand of detergents are very pricey compared to other makes. Would readers please advise if normal detergents /car shampoo can be used. The experience and opinion of other forum readers will be appreciated.

Gas or Electric Cooker?
I've decided to buy a new free-standing cooker - having struggled to make meals with a tiny combination microwave/grill/oven for more years than I care to remember! I haven't a clue about oven installation, so these questions might seem very naive ... ! I think I'd prefer a gas oven - however there has never been a gas…

Honeywell CM927
After extolling the virtues of the said programmable thermostat, I'm now going to look really stupid :o and tell everyone that it failed on me today - coincidentally the first day of the year - I'm hoping it's not some 12 year delayed millenium bug! Anyhow - hoping kanuckle et al who have experience in fitting these things…

Home Tek Steam Travel Iron - no steam
Hi I have a Home Tek Steam Travel Iron. I don't really iron much, but I love it to bits. I haven't used it in a while. I have just come to steam a wool coat that I washed to get out the creases and no steam is coming out. I have used a cocktail stick on the holes in the sole plate and then added vinegar to the tank. It…

Bloody Wall is Peeling!
Hi there We painted our dining room when we moved in a year ago. We painted over the emulsion which was already on the walls. Now, I have a dryer in the understairs cupboard, and I think this has caused the paint on the other side of the wall to lift (possibly the condensation or the heat?) and peel. I now have a lovely…

Can anyone recommend a built under oven model?
Hey, Second question so go steady :) Not being ofay with the various kitchen hardware brands can anyone recommend a middle of the road (sub £400) built under oven, or even just a brand please? We've been looking at Indesit and Zanussi but as I say I have zero knowledge of the ones to avoid so any suggestions are warmly…
